I’ve recently received an email from a friend that resembled one of those fake Bill Gate’s will send you a dollar if you forward this.  The email basically states that since Daylight Savings Time starts at a different time this year that Microsoft products will be affected.

This change is due to the Energy Policy Act of 2005 which extends Daylight Savings Time by approximately four weeks.  So, beginning this year (2007) the US will start DST three weeks earlier (2:00 am on the second Sunday in March) and will end a week later (2:00 am on the first Sunday in November).

So pretty much this change will affect essentially everything Microsoft touches, which includes C++ development, Office programs, scheduling programs and so on.  But, since Microsoft is so responsible they’ve set up a special “support site” to tell you how to update your system so that the transition is smoother:

Who’da thought that we would ever need a daylight savings time help and support center?  Well the good thing is that Microsoft is providing the Time Zone updates at no-cost for customers.
